Let’s Go with Toileting!

Most children gain full control over their bowel functions between the ages of two and five years. Toileting, however, can be both stressful and embarrassing for both children and parents when issues persist beyond this age. Without appropriate attention to constipation, this condition can have a medical impact on the child’s digestive system and influence future toileting behaviours.

  • Is your child four years or older and not yet toilet trained?
  • Has your child been or is your child currently constipated and continuing to soil?
  • Is your child withholding and refusing to sit on the toilet?

If so, there are Occupational Therapists at Mater Health and Wellness who are experienced and specialise in chronic constipation and soiling (encopresis). Staff are specifically trained in assessing and providing individualised bowel training programmes using child-friendly educational resources and effective behavioural and psychological approaches.

Please contact Mater Health and Wellness on 07 3163 6000 for an appointment with an experienced occupational therapist.
