Nutrition and Dietetics

Mater Health and Wellness' team of Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APDs) provide wholistic, personalised dietetic care for a variety of conditions to the general public as well as inpatients at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane and Mater Children’s Private Brisbane.

What is an Accredited Practising Dietitian?

APDs are university-qualified professionals that undertake ongoing training and education programs to ensure that they are your most up-to-date and credible source of nutrition information. They translate scientific health and nutrition information into practical advice.

APDs offer personalised advice and support to help treat a wide range of conditions including diabetes, heart disease, cancers, gastrointestinal diseases, food allergies, food intolerances, disordered eating as well as overweight and obesity.

APDs understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to diet and nutrition and it’s at this individual level that an APD can help – that is, understand each person’s unique profile, medical history, needs, goals and lifestyle. APDs are qualified to tailor nutrition advice to find the best approach for each person, which is the cornerstone of ‘Medical Nutrition Therapy’.

Our inpatient service

Patients in hospital arrange for a dietitian visit by speaking to the patient’s doctor or the ward nurse in charge. We are available from 8 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday. There is no additional cost incurred for the inpatient dietetic service.

If required, we can organise ongoing dietetic counselling, support and follow up through our private outpatient service at the Health and Wellness clinic or a local service for those who live outside of Brisbane.
