Neuropsychology and Psychology


Our personalised neuropsychology service provides comprehensive examinations and formal neurocognitive testing which allow our experienced professionals to gain an in-depth understanding of your injury, disorder or condition. 

Neuropsychology examination areas include:

  • all general adult clinical neuropsychology

  • early diagnosis and characterization of neurodegenerative disorders

  • pre-surgical work up for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), epilepsy and intracranial surgery

  • advice on return to work after acute brain injury

  • sports concussion assessment.


Our psychologists offer counselling or interventions to assist you cope with a range of health and relationship concerns, difficult life transitions or mental health issues including:

Emotional and mental health support during and after pregnancy for women and their partners

We can provide support and interventions to pregnant women and their partners with regards to change to pregnancy, being a parent, impact of parenting on their relationships, post-natal blues, anxiety, and/or depression.

Emotional and mental health support for cancer patients and their families

Our compassionate, experienced pyschologists can support and assist you with

  • health changing behaviors such as increasing motivation to exercise and having a healthy diet

  • depression and mood management related to cancer and its treatment

  • adjusting to a diagnosis of cancer and coping with stressors related to treatment

  • chronic and acute pain management

  • personal growth – building self-esteem and confidence, identifying goals and values

Weight management and pre-weight management surgery

If you struggle with weight, body image concerns or unhealthy eating patterns, we provide personalised support and professional advice to help you achieve positive changes to your health, wellbeing and lifestyle.

For patients considering weight-management surgery, we can offer focused assessment and interventions to enhance your before and after surgery outcomes.

Recovery from chronic illness or severe injury

We provide emotional and mental health support as part of your treatment and rehabilitation program to assist you recover from severe injury or illness.

Is Mater Health and Wellness open to the public?

The Mater Health and Wellness clinic provides private allied health services to the general public, as well as Mater staff and patients. 

No referral is required to access our services, but you may need a GP or health professional referral to be eligible to receive certain rebates.

Fees and rebates

Fees will apply for this service. HICAPS and private health fund rebates are available where applicable. 

Please contact your GP to find out if you are eligible for the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Plan.
