Early Childhood Assessment and Screening

Mater Health and Wellness and offers a variety of best practice assessment services and works one-on-one with parents, family members or teachers to assist with identifying the most relevant assessment selection and therapy intervention for young children with learning difficulties or developmental concerns.

Our team of experienced and accredited audiologists, dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech therapists specialise in children’s health and offer a range of personalised assessment services to help give your child the best start in life, including:

  • screening for early identification of developmental concerns in movement, fine motor, problem solving, communication and social development
  • assessment to support specific medical diagnosis e.g. Hearing, ADOS 2 (Gold standard assessment for assisting with autism diagnosis)
  • assessment and evidence gathering related to funding eligibility e.g. NDIS
  • assessment to determine school readiness or if global delay is present
  • assessment to help identify contributing factors underlying difficulties in movement, balance and  coordination
  • assessment to help identify contributing factors underlying difficulties in talking, reading and comprehension
  • assessment to help identify contributing factors underlying difficulties in specific functional skill difficulties e.g. toileting, dressing, play, feeding/meal times, grasp and manipulation, hand writing
  • assessment to help identify contributing factors underlying difficulties in self-regulation, behaviour and sensitivities to sensory information, organisation and routines.

Accessing your child’s assessment findings

After your child’s assessment, our team provides you with a report which outlines the key findings and recommendations from the assessment. We offer three types of assessment reports, and our team will work with you to choose the most appropriate type of report required based on your needs.

Summary report

A brief report outlining the reason for assessment, assessment type and key findings.

Standard report

A report providing the reason for assessment, assessment type, findings of the assessment, impact of assessment findings on the development/function/participation of the child and key recommendations.

Complex/Specialised report

Quoted at hourly rate.

Is Mater Health and Wellness open to the public?

The Mater Health and Wellness clinic provides private allied health services to the general public as well as Mater staff and patients. No referral is required.
